Having worked as a venue manager at The Bowden, I have seen a lot of weddings and events. Believe me when I say that planning a wedding can be an absolute emotional roller coaster! But don’t worry—I’m here to help guide you through and provide some dos and don’ts to make your life easier.

Let’s start with the dos.

DO book an all-inclusive venue like The Bowden.

It makes such a difference! I can’t tell you how many times couples have been relieved once they realize we handle catering, bar service, and even decor. It’s like the world has been lifted off their shoulders.

DO start early.

The early bird gets the worm… or in this case, the early couple gets their dream date! Just last month we had someone book for next year – smart move! DO create a budget and stick to it. We are very upfront about what things cost at The Bowden – no surprises here!

DO think about an off-peak date.

Sometimes you can get really lucky! Just this past year we were able to save a couple thousands by doing it on a Friday in November.

DO keep in mind your guests’ experience when looking at venues.

We have plenty of parking, beautiful spaces, and top-notch service at The Bowden – your guests will thank you!

And now for the don’ts.

DON’T try to juggle multiple vendor contracts if you can avoid it – trust me!

That’s why our packages at The Bowden are all-inclusive.

DON’T skimp on photography.

These are your memories, after all! We have great lighting options here that photographers love.

DON’T forget to eat on your big day.

We always make sure our couples get some time alone together while everyone else is eating so they can actually enjoy the food!

DON’T stress about the little things.

Focus on what matters most – each other! Leave the rest to us.

DON’T try to make everyone happy.

It’s your day! We’re here at The Bowden to bring YOUR vision to life.

DON’T assume DIY will save you money.

I’ve seen so many couples spend more time, effort, and cash on a DIY project than if they had just hired a pro or used what we have included in our packages.

Here’s another tip: remember to take a moment for yourselves during the reception! We have a beautiful outdoor area here at The Bowden that is perfect for this—quick and quiet.

I once worked with a couple who did all of these things, and their wedding day was honestly one of the easiest I’ve ever done. They were so relaxed and happy—they truly enjoyed every single minute. That’s how it should be!

Now I know what you may be thinking – backyard weddings! They are so popular right now and can also be really beautiful. However, let me say this: they are A LOT of work. Weather, rentals (tent, tables, chairs, linens), and setup/breakdown… can get overwhelming quickly. With us at The Bowden, though – we have got you covered there too!

I cannot even count how many times couples have thanked me after the fact for talking them out of doing DIY centerpieces or homemade favors themselves because “Kelly… you were SO right about that.”

Remember that your wedding day is about celebrating your love for each other above anything else; everything else should come second, including joy over stress levels whenever possible. That is why places like ours exist – we want nothing more than making sure people have their dream days without any added hassle or stress involved along the way

Therefore, I can’t wait to help make your wedding dreams come true. So, stick to these do’s and don’ts, choose an all-inclusive venue like The Bowden, and get ready for the best day of your life.
