22 Jun 3 Behind-the-Scenes Tips for Hosting a Successful Sweet Sixteen
Sixteen is a big year for teens across the nation. If you or someone you know is turning sixteen soon and you want to host a celebration, here’s what you need to do.
Decide On a Budget
Before you can even begin planning, you need to decide how much you’re going to spend. Even though the party is for a soon-to-be sixteen-year-old, that doesn’t mean that it can’t easily cost a fortune. Figure out how much you’re going to want to spend on party venues, catering, the DJ, and party favors.
Figure Out Who You’re Going to Invite
Whoever you invite is going to determine where you have the party and other aspects of your budget. For example, if any of the party venues you’re looking at hold 50 plus people, you can invite a large group. But if the party venues only hold 30 or less, you’re limited to a small party.
You also need to know how many people you’re inviting for food purposes. It’s a good idea to order more food than there is people so everyone is sufficiently fed. Ordering just enough food or not enough will leave some people hungry.
Figure Out Where You’re Having the Party
After figuring out the guest list and finding places that can accommodate that many people, you need to choose the perfect reception venue. Hosting an event doesn’t just mean bringing people in a room and letting them do whatever. You need to see if the large event spaces you’re looking at do their own catering or allow you to bring food in. You also need to see if they have the capability to accommodate a DJ. If they don’t, you’ll get stuck creating a playlist and playing the music yourself. The ideal playlist for a three-hour party is 52 songs or more. If you think you’ll have time to create a good list of songs, then you don’t need to worry about a DJ. But in many situations, a DJ is a lot easier.
When hosting an event, there’s a lot that goes into the planning process. You may be familiar with the amount of work that is put into planning a wedding, so you may think that a Sweet Sixteen party is a lot easier. But think again. A Sweet Sixteen party is just as much work, but as long as you do all of these things well in advance and stay organized, you’ll have a successful event.
